The principle upon which the operative technique of the FIRST prosthesis is based consists of dissociating the bone cuts and therefore, the position of the implants, from the balancing of the capsulo-ligamentary envelope (Fig. I).
Observation
Provided that the basic principles are adhered too, the sequence of the cuts can be modified:
- First femoral cuts

Intra-medullar reference for the tibia
- Reference marks for the external rotation of the femoral
component
- Ligamentary balancing
